Why I started keeping a travel notebook
I used to think a trip only counted if it was photographed. These days I carry a small notebook
instead. I write down the name of the café, the street I got lost on, what the light looked like at four
in the afternoon. It turns out the notes outlast the photos. A picture shows me where I stood; a
sentence shows me what I felt. If you have never tried it, take a cheap notebook on your next trip
and write three lines a day. You will be surprised what you keep.
